Guess Who? Mayor Euille of Alexandria Joins our Festival + Music by Hand Painted Swinger!

Guess who? Mayor Euille of Alexandria will kick off our event with a ceremonial opening speech. How exciting! The City of Alexandria is naturally an excellent sponsor and supporter for Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival. More wineries are ready to sign up and restaurants are working out their logistics.

How about the entertainment? Many different bands will join us on Saturday but today we are presenting you with one of them, Hand Painted Swinger, nominated as Best Pop-Rock Recording and Best Pop-Rock Group by the Washington Area Music Association. Hand Painted Swinger humbly began life as the PestStrips. They recorded a full length CD of original music in 1996 entitled “Sticky,” which was nominated for a “Wammy” award by the Washington Area Music Association. Well over a decade after they originally began, with an impressive library of original and cover songs under their belt, Hand Painted Swinger continues to play the Maryland, Northern VA and Washington DC circuit promoting their CD “Speed Hump,” all while gearing up to record their next CD. Don’t miss them at the event, they will be performing for 45 minutes.

Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival – Rebranded!

Ahhh! Change is good right? Well, everything else is staying the same so why change it? I am sorry to report that I was not able to find a Champagne producer to join us at our annual food and wine festival. Did you know that the law prohibits anyone from using the protected name “Champagne,” unless champagne from France isn’t involved? I am proud to present you with our newly branded festival, “Alexandria’s Food and Wine Festival.” Thank you to Maria Mandle from Creative Couch Designs for her great work on the branding and logo, and thanks to NOVA Advertising for designing and developing our festival’s website!

Presenting…Mattaponi Winery, Unicorn Winery, and Olio Tasting Room

We are all working hard to make this exciting event a success. We’d like to thank the Carlyle Community Council and the City of Alexandria for their support without which the event would not be possible.

This week I am thrilled to announced two wineries that will be participating: Mattaponi Winery & Unicorn Winery. Mattaponi winery is a small family-owned winery in the heart of Spotsylvania County, with a passion for making a variety of wonderful wines for over 20 years.  A Native American-Indian winery, they are a national and international award-winner for best fruit wine!

Unicorn Winery is also joining us. The UNICORN Vineyard and Winery is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the banks of the Rappahannock River, 7 miles west of Warrenton, Virginia, near the small town of Amissville, VA. They specialize in producing premium quality Virginia varietal wines. It is a small family-owned, quality-driven farm and boutique winery.

Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival will feature seven (7) different wineries and 14 restaurants. We have many restaurants excited about the opportunity to compete for the best appetizer, main course and dessert but I cannot give out names just yet, Sorry!

Do you know how to select your vinegar and olive oil? Do you just pick up the Italian olive oil because it sounds good, or do you go with the cheapest? Olio Tasting Room from Old Town Alexandria will give a presentation about their olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar in our food showcase tent. Remember, it is free to attend so come listen to the presentation and enjoy our live music.

Don’t forget to share this information with your friends!. This is an event not to be missed, please spread the word!

Food and Wine Festival in Alexandria? Yep, it’s finally here, save the date!

As an event producer, community resident and food and wine enthusiast, I am so proud to be a part of the first annual “Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival,” right here in our the Carlyle District of Old Town Alexandria. Wait! Where is John Carlyle Square again? You know, it’s the beautiful green space two blocks from the King Street Metro station where two lion statues mark the entrance to the Carlyle District. Unfortunately, this little oasis is not well known to the local community…but I have to say that it is quite the hidden gem. This place is waiting to be discovered: a variety of retail shops, great restaurants, benches for taking a load off, and a grassy green area adorned by a beautiful fountain that is ideal for picnics.

John Carlyle Square is a hidden treasure as a location for our food and wine festival, on top of that, there aren’t any other such events in the Alexandria Community. If you don’t want to drive to Arlington or Reston for great food and wine tasting festivals, the Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival is the new place to be.

We are taking the event to the next level by adding an Education Tent, where you will be able to learn all the nuances about food and wine pairing. You will be able to learn about selecting your wine based on knowledge rather than prices; next time you’re invited to a friend’s house you can come prepared! And on a similar note, how about inviting your friends over to make sushi? You can learn how to make sushi in the food showcase tent area.

This event offers something for everyone: food savvy people will enjoy tastes from Alexandria’s best […]
